Review of Day 1 (DETOX)

Yesterday was the test of time. I had nothing but fruit and vegetable smoothies all day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In addition to smoothies, I also consumed a small handful of cashews and almonds, 2 boiled eggs with nothing on them, and a chicken nugget from Chick-Fil-A that my daughter had. They were so tempting. Yes, I managed to cheat on my first day and it was delicious! It was actually not a hard day though.

My mind stayed on what foods I would eat when I end this detox, which ends exactly 9 days from now. I have completed 10% of my journey. I am trying to stay upbeat about this cleanse. My cravings are kicking my butt right now but yesterday I did fine. Even with the detox tea, I used no added sugar and I drank 4 bottles of water. That is already better than I have been doing. This morning I weighed myself and I was 163.8 lbs. Considering that I was 168 on Sunday, and now on Tuesday I am 5 pounds lighter. I am already impressed and this is giving me motivation to get to my desired size.

I also gave up Facebook for my detox because it is a distraction. I need to focus on eating healthy, exercising, and making the best of my life. So with this detox I plan to cleanse my mind, body, and soul. Definitely looking forward to DAY 10 of this detox. Although, that’s a long way I am definitely on my way to losing some weight.

I’m back after….

I’m back after a failed attempt at making a lifestyle change. I successfully lost 5 pounds on my clean eating diet. Unfortunately, I got sick after a couple days of eating all veggies and a little meat. I had diarrhea and vomiting very bad for some reason. After kicking my diet to the side, I was excited about my weight loss so I began to eat whatever and however I wanted. I got down to 154 after my clean eating attempt, only to most recently weigh in at 168. Yes, I got that cocky…

So here I am again, at day 1 of my 10 day green smoothie detox. My mother purchased a book for me on my Kindle (by mistake actually). Thanks to Amazon’s one click purchasing, she bought “10 Day Green Smoothie Detox” by JJ Smith. She told me about the book and was interested in trying it. I showed a little interest but after I heard about the lose 10-15 pounds claims in 10 days I was sold.

Let me fast forward to grocery shopping just yesterday. Yesterday, we purchased all the ingredients for 5 days. We spent about $70 per person, while shopping together. It was very expensive. I guess you could compare that to eating lunch at a restaurant for about a week and a half. My basket was so full of produce. Actually, this is the most produce I have ever had in my house at once.

I have so much to tell you about day 1 but I must make a new post. I do not want to bore you with this extremely long post. Stay tuned. This day is nowhere near through…

I forgot to take my lunch today and I only had a snack bar. I am so hungry!! This causes us to over-eat. I’ll try to eat lots of veggies when I get off work to compensate for the missed meal.

Long time no post… This is only the beginning!

So… I started my eating clean experience without any notice. Sorry to my invisible crowd of followers on my blog. (sarcasm) It was at the spur of the moment. I went to buy groceries and began on March 1st.

On my first three days I juiced myself a smoothie (without milk) every morning with kale, spinach, mixed berries, and a banana. I ate breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks daily. Almost every meal consisted of fruits or veggies. However, after the 3rd day I began to have diarrhea symptoms. I left my desk several times that day. I was feeling horrible. By the time I made it home from work at noon, I was feeling queasy and my diarrhea got worse.

Long story, short: I don’t know what caused this reaction. Maybe I consumed too much fiber? Maybe my body wasn’t used to all the foods I was eating? Maybe I got food poisoning? That is still a mystery to me. Even while I was sick for that day I remained faithful to my new lifestyle change. My mother brought me 100% whole wheat crackers and Powerade. So I am gradually beginning to eat veggies and fruit more often. Yesterday I got a little sick while at work and I came home feeling queasy again. This time no diarrhea but I did vomit my lunch.

I am not giving up yet. I am still committed to this trial month of dieting. I lost 5 pounds in 3 days after my body expelled all the food I had consumed. It was almost as if I had a natural laxative and cleansing.

So far, this is day 11 and I do not feel great. I take multivitamins, drink water, consume a diet of protein, fruits, and veggies. I do not feel a burst of energy. Dieting is no fun. By the way, I turned down O’Charleys for dinner one night, cake, and a lot of things I have been missing. I’m glad to say that I don’t miss soda. I’m praying for better days. Stay tuned!

Soda-free

In other news today, I would like to announce that I am cutting sodas out of my diet. As I enter March, I am going to try to live a more healthy lifestyle without sodas. I went to the Whole Foods store and picked up organic strawberry lemonade and juices. For the most part, I will be drinking water but even for the most disciplined people a life without flavor would be unimaginable.

I drink sodas early in the morning and I would fill bloated and I also started to have pain in my pelvic area at times. It’s never been a consistent pain but I knew the sodas had to go. I don’t want to mess up my kidneys and bladder for something I CAN live without. I am happy about starting and I will encourage anyone else to give up sodas at least twice a week and replace it with water. You will see a change physically and financially (especially in restaurants).

My mother cut out sodas over 15 years ago. I will use her as model. Last soda today is a Cherry Coke.

Diary of a Fed Up Woman…

I’ve never been over 135 lbs all my life until I gave birth to my first child. At my last doctor’s appointment before giving birth, I tipped the scale at 197 lbs!! Reminder: I am only 5’6. My body type does not carry weight well because I am naturally thin. I got stretch marks anytime I would gain a little weight in my hips even when I was a teen. I was made to be very small. The nickname my aunt gave me was “Miss Too Little” because I was such a tiny little girl. After birth, my stretch marks were very deep and light which has made me uncomfortable about my body. It was almost as if my body were stretched beyond capacity.

This lifestyle change will really help me to get back to a leaner me. I have a pudgy belly now as if I’m bloated and I am not happy with myself. People that think it is easy to lose weight must have never been fat. I have less energy and I am eating the wrong foods. This eat-clean diet will mean the world to me. I’m trying to take it one day at a time. If I want to change my appearance, I know that it starts with changing my mind to overcome my own issues with my weight.

PS: My boyfriend says he is willing to take the challenge with me. Last night, we had fresh tilapia, spinach, and mashed red potatoes. It was a yummy meal. I think the tilapia and spinach were a good start. We eat fresh salmon at least once or twice a week. If I could I would buy salmon everyday 🙂

Quick update: Soda restrictions!

I am cutting sodas out of my diet for the month of March so I can transition into this eat-clean diet a little smoother. I will try my best to cut out something periodically until I feel that I am mentally ready to change my eating habits. I am about to get off work in 5 minutes. Today has been a busy day. Wish I had time to write more.

I’d rather eat my calories. Drink more water. Eat less.

My package has arrived…

Ok, so I’ve been waiting on my book “The Eat-Clean Diet Recharged” by Tosca Reno for a couple days now. I won a bid on Ebay for about $5. That was a steal, considering the new value is $19.95. I love to save money! Anyways, I started reading last night while I was in the bed. I did not want to put the book down because it was so much information I wanted to know. I read the first couple of pages, which basically introduced you to the author and her pivotal moment in life that made her go from 200 lbs to 130 lbs and maintain it. She made eating clean a lifestyle change for herself, yada yada yada… I think everyone’s weight loss story is about the same, more or less.

I immediately went to the table of contents which led me to what I wanted to know the most. I dived in and I really couldn’t put the book down. I love the colorful pictures in the book as well. They really helped my focus my attention. Also, there are recipes for clean eating towards the end of the book, which I don’t think I will be using anytime soon. Overall, I think the book is worth it if you’re considering the eat-clean revolution. Some people called it “common sense” in the reviews but I think our common sense is not so common at times. We all know that we shouldn’t be eating fast food to replace meals but often do so because it is fast and it’s food. I definitely look forward to changing my eating habits. Hopefully this will be motivation enough to jump start my lifestyle change.

Think vegan.

I just watched “Farm to Fridge” a short documentary that my friend shared on Facebook. It was horrible to say the least. I have always been told to watch dairy/beef/pork/poultry industry bashing films, but seeing the blood and torture of the animals was hard for me to bare. I sat through the entire film this time (with my audio turned completely off for fear of hearing the animals squealing in unbearable pain).

A lot of people commented that they would consider being vegetarian afterwards but how many people actually watch these films and continue their carnivorous lifestyle? I will raise my hand alone. I know that today at some point I will consume some meat. Unfortunately, I will have a bad vision in my head about the abuse the animals go through before being shipped to be on our dinner plates (really on breakfast and lunch plates as well).

I don’t know? As with any lifestyle change, it takes time to think about making it a decision to live without something, especially something that you were introduced to as a child. What are the benefits of subtracting meat out of my diet? As for me, I am strongly considering to make eating clean apart of my daily life. Not for weight loss, not for a new trend in dieting, and certainly not because I would like sound affluent and snooty (as most vegans I know do). I love all food and food loves me (so I think). Vegan may not be the lifestyle for me but I do commend those that do go cold turkey giving up meat.

My inspiration…

My inspiration...

This is The Eat-Clean Diet Recharged by Tosca Reno. I have not purchased the book yet. I’m saving money by purchasing it on Ebay. I can’t wait to win the auction (for $1.25 by the way) so that I can brush up on my clean eating knowledge before I jumpstart my lifestyle change. It looks like a good read. Many reviewers of the book say its all common sense what she has compiled in a book. I’m sure I could use the help.
